Why wait

Why should I / you wait?   I was going to wait until the middle of the month but have decided just to go with it now.
Anyone fancy joining me in a Charley Harper Quilt Along.  This is for fun - a personal challenge - you can piece block/s, appliqué, paint and thread paint, do a stitchery, basically create a quilt block in any medium you like.  Then how you use the block is up to you as well - make a wall panel, use it as a feature block in a lap quilt, for a cushion, again anything you like.
Just enjoy and be creative.

I've been in touch with Brent Harper, executor of the Charley Harper Estate and received their blessings for a quilt along using Charley Harper artwork as inspiration.

There are various links to blogs, Flickr galleries, publications, etc., available through the internet which will give you numerous pieces of artwork from which you could make your selection.
What you want to make is entirely up to you, it could be a mini art quilt, a cushion/pillow, a block or blocks for a larger quilt, it is entirely up to you.

Here are some links to photographs of some projects the artwork has inspired:-
So why don't you explore, and hopefully you will find an image that inspires you and you'll decide to join in.  Will you do birds, fish, raccoons, otters, giraffe or zebra, there's plenty to choose from.

This Quilt Along is for personal pleasure and reward only, please respect the Charley Harper Estate and do not produce the quilt or pattern you make for financial reward - for further information please read this.

There will be another couple of blog posts here about the Quilt Along, including a range of buttons you can use on your own blog, and hopefully other posts which you'll find interesting and inspiring.

A Flickr group has been created for all taking part in this Quilt Along - find it here

Charlie Harper is new to me but these images are gorgeous. I'm following you and will probably join, too. What kind of time line are you looking at for this quilt along?

This is just up my alley. I just made a Charley Harper owl quilt block for a bee that I'm in and I hated sending it away.

I found you via Lily's Quilts and I would love to make a quilt using these pictures for inspiration (add it to the list!). I remember Ranger Rick!

I'd love to join ~ I did a collage of a part of a Charley Harper print. It turned out great! You can see the collage on my blog ~ elsasfineline.blogspot.com. I'd been thinking for a while to do one in fabric. Now you've given me inspiration!

Two of the blogs I regularly read led me here today- i take it as a sign! And, I fell in love with an image already, so i think my list of things to do just got a little longer.

Ooh, the owl and cardinal are both calling to me. But... I'll have to pass this time. I'm already a little overcommitted with a commission quilt, 2 bees and 2 guild challenges plus the usual.

Can't wait to see what everyone does!

I came here through Lily`s too and at first the name Charlie Harper didn`t mean too much. Then, when I looked at the images I realized that my 2 year old son had his beautiful 123 book. I`ll take a look for inspiration!

I'm in! I have been a CH fan for just a little while, but I fell hard for his exquisite take on flora and fauna. Thanks for the challenge:)

I can't wait to see the beautiful things you guys create! This looks like a great challenge. Unfortunately I'm sooo swamped right now that I can't participate. But I can be a cheerleader! ;)

I have never seen his work, but I love it! I've been thinking all day about joining, and finally decided to do it.

It'll be fun just choosing an image for the project, won't it?

I was working on trying some quilt squares last week using my CH calendars! The funny thing is I grew up in Cincinnati where he lived and am looking forward to seeing some of his mosaics up there in April. I joined the Flickr group.

I bought a quilt pattern based on a Charley Harper design many (over 20) years ago but never made a quilt from it. Your blog has sparked my interest in his designs again so I will have to search my patterns to find it.

Oh my...can I really commit to another quilt project right now? But how can I resist! I've always loved Harper's art...
Arrrgh...must wait to dive in until I finish my DQS. But I did order the book of his works from the library!

Jane Haworth, a quilter from Auborn, ca made a quilt using CH images. It was hung at the Sisters Quilt Show. Susan Beal bloged about it and has pics on her blog. West Coast Crafty. See the date of 7/13/09. Sorry, don't know how to link to that blog.

How wonderful! I visited the Charley Harper mural at Miami University in Ohio & took some photos, which your readers are welcome to use for reference:

These would be especially helpful to those intending to piece with squares, as the mural is composed of tiles and is already gridded!

I hope your hand is much better. I participated in this quilt a long although I don't have a blog. I ended up donating my mini Charley Harper quilt to AAQI and the quilt is up for sale. Here's the link to the quilt.

Thanks for the great inspiration and fun idea.
